The 21st century learner is a global citizen, who:
Understands/respects, and works with other cultures;
Has civil discourse across cultural and national boundaries;
Connects beyond national boundaries — and learns across those boundaries;
Takes socially responsible action that helps the world to be a safer and healthier place;
Can adapt/thrive in a rapidly changing global context.
Vision
All students in Colorado, as a result of their education (or participation in learning experiences made possible through public funding)…
Are able to work across cultural and national boundaries;
Are self-driven learners (know how to learn) who can fulfill the unique potential and dream for each of their lives, be productive contributors to their communities within the 21st century context (which includes globalization of the economy, conflict, ecological damage, and rapid change);
Are ethically sound;
Are globally and locally aware;
Possesses healthy life skills;
Can adeptly manage (gather, evaluate, synthesize, and communicate) information;
Are consumers and producers of learning (supporting the learning of others).
Mission
Public education will:
Provide increasingly powerful learning experiences, available at any time and everywhere, that enable students to achieve the vision of 21st century learners.
Help to make the transition from schools as they are to learning as it will be.
Facilitate a context in which the community supports and engages in learning — learning is ubiquitous.
