C21L's mission is to support systemic change that transforms schooling into powerful learning that serves the needs of all people.

Colorado’s Vision for 21st Century Learning

In June 2007, an exceptional and diverse group of education stakeholders convened to create a statewide vision for 21st century learning in Colorado. Comprised of more than 200 people -- including the state's new commissioner of education, students, members of the state board of education, legislators, appointees to the P-20 education council, school district superintendents, education policy advocates, parents, librarians, and classroom teachers -- the group developed the vision depicted in the image below. Join our wiki!   At the Navigator Conference, where stakeholders from around the state helped create Colorado's vision for 21st century learning, many people were calling for real strategies and practices. This wiki, ColoradoLearns, is a venue for defining "How" 21st century learning happens. Please join the conversation. Your perspective and promising practice nominations are needed to make this effort successful

Elements of the vision statement drafted at the Navigator Conference

Participants drafted the vision depicted above. In workgroups and plenary sessions, these “navigators” identified essential knowledge, skills and attributes needed to thrive in the 21st century. They described the principles of assessment needed to assure that students are mastering these essentials, and discussed the characteristics of powerful learning experiences. C21L continues to develop resources designed to deepen and energize the statewide conversation on 21st century learning. See Resources tab for more.
