Mission

The Council is comprised of education professionals who are exploring the relationship among emerging media; shifting economic, social, and cultural patterns in the U.S. and the world; and innovative strategies for supporting increasingly powerful learning. The Council seeks to partner with educators and organizations who share interests in these relationships.

C21L’s mission is to support system-wide changes in education leading to a focus on serving learners at every level of the education system. We assume that educators and administrators are learners, and that students may also teach in certain contexts. We believe a robust education system serves learners of all ages, colors, and aptitudes, regardless of their geographic location, unique challenges or interests.

Our mission includes four aspects

Inform  To inform decision makers about what 21st Century Learning looks like, what it can do, and how it helps learners reach their potential in a changing world.

Support  To support educators in exploring and using 21st Century Learning (C21L).

Accelerate  To accelerate the transformation* of education in ways that are consistent with C21L.

Shape  To shape this transformation such that it has the most positive impact on learners and is equitably accessible to all learners.

* We use the term "transformation" intentionally, as opposed to "revolution" or "significant difference" in education. The assumption is that this change is imminent, inevitable and the sooner the better.
